— Executive Chairman Robert H. Ellis takes on life-science leadership
— Appointments underscore emphasis on biopharma industry partnerships
Woburn, MA, September 28, 2006 - BioTrove, Inc. announced today that Albert A. Luderer, Ph.D., has been named company President, Chief Executive Officer and one of its five corporate directors. Robert H. Ellis, BioTrove Executive Chairman, will focus efforts on the commercialization of the company's life science laboratories products and services that accelerate research and development.

Joshua Phillips, BioTrove board member and managing director of Catalyst Health and Technology Partners, a Massachusetts-based venture capital firm, stated: "Al's significant medical diagnostics and pharma expertise will allow BioTrove to capitalize on its existing strong nanofluidic molecular testing capabilities, and will successfully guide the Company as it diversifies into diagnostic medicine."
Dr. Luderer brings to BioTrove 30 years' experience in medical diagnostics, including 17 years in executive positions. Most recently, Dr. Luderer served for five years as president, chief executive officer, and director at Light Sciences, LLC in Seattle, Washington, where he focused on oncology, interventional cardiology, and ophthalmologic diseases. He was part of the management team responsible for the business strategy and closing of the company's spin-off of Light Sciences Oncology - one of the largest private equity investments in 2005.
Prior to Light Sciences, Dr. Luderer served as president and chief operating officer, bioMérieux, and held senior positions at Dianon Systems and Boehringer Mannheim Corporation.
Dr. Luderer received his Bachelor of Arts from Drew University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University, where he was a National Science Foundation predoctoral fellow. Dr. Luderer is a director of Light Sciences LLC, the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Washington University's Biomedical Engineering Department.
