Woburn, MA, May 30, 2003—BioTrove, Inc. , a privately held biotechnology company focused on leveraging revolutionary micro- and nano- scale engineering solutions to overcome current bottlenecks in pharmaceutical drug discovery and biotechnology, today announced that Robert H. Ellis has joined the company as Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Ellis brings to BioTrove 29 years of experience in analytical and biotechnology instrumentation, including 17 years of experience in the field of genetic and protein analysis. In his role as COO, Mr. Ellis will oversee the commercialization of the company's Living Chip™ and Lab-on-a-Tape™ nanofluidic drug discovery platforms.

"With his extensive experience at top-tier life science companies, Bob brings to BioTrove the business expertise and industry knowledge that will contribute to the continued growth and expansion of the company," said Colin J.H. "I look forward to working with the team at BioTrove in addressing the demanding pressure in drug discovery to screen more targets, find high quality leads and develop more effective assays through the development of their technologies."

Mr. Ellis joins BioTrove from Affymetrix, where he was Executive Vice President responsible for R&D efforts for the commercialization of the company's microarray technology, resulting in the development and introduction of numerous new products. Previously, Mr. Ellis was President of Genometrix and held senior executive positions at Applied Biosystems and Perkin Elmer where he was responsible for strategic marketing and R&D for Perkin Elmer's Applied Genetics and Nucleic Acid synthesis units. While at Applied Biosystems, he led the marketing of the world's first automated DNA sequencer that has generated over $1 billion dollars in sales since its introduction.
