
Former Affymetrix Executive Vice President Brings to BioTrove Commercialization
and Operational Experience in the Life Science Business
Woburn, MA, May 30, 2003BioTrove, Inc. , a privately held biotechnology company focused on leveraging
revolutionary micro- and nano- scale engineering solutions to overcome
current bottlenecks in pharmaceutical drug discovery and biotechnology,
today announced that Robert H. Ellis has joined the company as Chief Operating
Officer. Mr. Ellis brings to BioTrove 29 years of experience in analytical
and biotechnology instrumentation, including 17 years of experience in
the field of genetic and protein analysis. In his role as COO, Mr. Ellis
will oversee the commercialization of the company's Living Chip
and Lab-on-a-Tape nanofluidic drug discovery platforms.

Mr. Ellis joins BioTrove from Affymetrix, where he was Executive Vice
President responsible for R&D efforts for the commercialization of
the company's microarray technology, resulting in the development and
introduction of numerous new products. Previously, Mr. Ellis was President
of Genometrix and held senior executive positions at Applied Biosystems
and Perkin Elmer where he was responsible for strategic marketing and
R&D for Perkin Elmer's Applied Genetics and Nucleic Acid synthesis
units. While at Applied Biosystems, he led the marketing of the world's
first automated DNA sequencer that has generated over $1 billion dollars
in sales since its introduction. Prior to Applied Biosystems, Mr. Ellis
held a number of management positions with the Scientific Instrument Division
of Hewlett Packard. He holds a B.A. from Hartwick College with a Major
in Chemistry and a Minor in Mathematics.
