Cambridge, MA, January 24, 2002—BioTrove today announced the issuance of U.S.
patent # 6,309,600, “Apparatus for droplet microchemistry”.
This patent grants protection for the core features of BioTrove’s
revolutionary Lab-on-a-Tape™ technology platform.
“We are pleased to receive the first in what we believe will be
a series of patents covering this unique and powerful screening platform,”
said John Linton, Ph.D., BioTrove’s Vice President for Technology.
The Lab-on-a-Tape platform allows very precise dispensing, mixing, processing
and analysis of nanoliter volume samples in an automated, ultra high-throughput
manner. The platform readily accepts samples from current microplate formats.
BioTrove intends to offer screening services based on the technology to
its pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients. Services will be provided
either at BioTrove’s site or at a customer’s site. Customers
will gain the advantages of greatly increased throughput combined with
assay flexibility and decreased consumption of precious reagents and library
materials.
