Dr. Luderer has 30 years of experience in in vitro medical diagnostics, laboratory medicine and therapeutic development. Dr. Luderer was Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Light Sciences Corporation where he led the company's combined business, technical and commercial activities leading to the clinical development of the Litx™ therapeutic platform. Working with the Light Sciences Board, he established and implemented the private financing strategy responsible for one of the largest "A" round financings in biotech history culminating in the spin out of a dedicated oncology company, Light Sciences Oncology, Inc. Prior to joining Light Sciences, Dr. Luderer was President, Chief Operating Officer and a member of the global executive committee of bioMerieux, Inc., a world leader in in vitro diagnostics. As President, he had P&L responsibility for North America and oversaw all business, financial, manufacturing, technical, legal and regulatory functions. During his tenure, Vitek II™ the first fully automated identification and antibiotic susceptibility system was successfully developed and launched globally. Prior to bioMerieux, Dr. Luderer was Vice President of Business and Technology Development at Dianon systems (now Lab Corp) a leader in clinical and anatomic pathology services. At Dianon he participated in the restructuring of the core reference laboratory business from a clinical pathology-based operational model to a comprehensive organ-based anatomic pathology service. While at Dianon, he co-discovered and established the measurement of free (f) PSA as a standard-of-care diagnostic in prostate cancer management. From 1987 - 1993, Dr. Luderer was Director then Vice President of Technology Development and Support at Boehringer Mannheim Corporation (now Roche). Major systems successfully completed included the Accu-Check Advantage, Boehringer's first electrochemical-based blood glucose detection system. His original industry work experience was gained at Corning Inc's. Health and Science group where he played a key role in negotiating the joint venture diagnostic company Ciba Corning (now Bayer Diagnostics). He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Drew University and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University where he was a National Science Foundation pre-doctoral fellow. Dr. Luderer is a Director of Light Sciences LLC and Micronics, Inc. and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Washington University's Department of Biomedical Engineering, St. Louis MO.
Mr. Ellis has 29 years of experience in analytical and biotechnology instrumentation, including 17 years of experience in the field of genetic and protein analysis. Prior to BioTrove, Mr. Ellis was at Affymetrix, where he was Executive Vice President responsible for R&D efforts. He spearheaded the commercialization of microarray technology, resulting in the development and introduction of numerous new products. Previously, he was President of Genometrix and held senior executive positions at Perkin Elmer and Applied Biosystems. At Perkin Elmer he was responsible for strategic marketing and R&D of the Applied Genetics and Nucleic Acid synthesis units. While at Applied Biosystems, he led the marketing of the world's first automated DNA sequencer that generated over $1 billion in sales since its introduction. Prior to Applied Biosystems, Mr. Ellis held a number of management positions with the Scientific Instrument Division of Hewlett Packard. He holds a B. A. from Hartwick College with a Major in Chemistry and a Minor in Mathematics.
Dr. Brenan is a co-founder of BioTrove, Inc. and is the company's Chief Technology Officer. He brings to the organization over 20 years of experience in scientific research, technical program management, and product development at MPB Technologies Inc. and, most recently, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Brenan is recognized for his contributions in the fields of confocal microscopy, spectroscopic imaging, bio-microsystems, microsurgical robotics, and nanofluidic technologies for pharmaceutical drug discovery and research. He has published extensively in these fields and has multiple patents covering communications, microfluidic systems, and optical technologies. Dr. Brenan regularly consults for the National Institutes of Health; is a reviewer for IEEE, IEE, and AIP journals; is a Senior Member of the IEEE; and is the Chair of the Boston Chapter of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE-EMBS). Dr. Brenan received his B.Sc. (Honors Physics), M. Eng. (Electrical), and Ph.D. (Biomedical Engineering) from McGill University.
Mr. Leathe has more than 25 years' global experience building and leading finance and business functions for a diverse range of private and public companies. His responsibilities at BioTrove will include oversight of all financial functions and IT infrastructure development.
Before joining BioTrove, Mr. Leathe served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Apogent Technologies. Prior to Apogent, Mr. Leathe held executive positions at Prime Computer, Congoleum Industries, and GTE. He is a director and chairman of the audit committee for Bottomline Technologies, a NASDAQ-listed software firm, and a director of the Senator George J. Mitchell Research Scholarship Institute. Jeff received his MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, his B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and holds his CPA.
Mr. Sztukowski brings to BioTrove more than 25 years’ global experience in business and strategy development, as well as diagnostics product development and commercialization. Before joining BioTrove, Mr. Sztukowski was a Senior Vice President, Business Area Manager with bioMérieux of Lyon, France. Prior to bioMérieux, Mr. Sztukowski was President of Remel, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of microbiology products. His experience also includes 13 years with Abbott Laboratories Diagnostic Division, where he held a series of positions with increasing responsibilities in sales and marketing management which contributed to market leadership in immunoassays.
Mr. Sztukowski serves as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Expression Analysis, Inc., a full-service microarray genetics testing and analysis company. He received his BS, Life Science from Fontbonne University in St. Louis and his MBA from the University of Chicago.
Mr. Pescatore, who directs BioTrove's financial operations, has over 30 years of experience, including senior management positions in multi-national and multi-locational firms. Prior to BioTrove, Mr. Pescatore managed the finances of various high tech and medical equipment companies, including Telepharmacy Solutions, Brite-Line Industries, ProfitKey International. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Boston College.
Mr. Cochran brings extensive experience in human resources, manufacturing, marketing and customer service-support expertise, primarily in the global critical care marketplace.
Prior to joining BioTrove, Mr. Cochran spent the majority of his career in roles of increasing responsibility at CIBA-Corning Diagnostics. He began his career as a manufacturing manager before moving to the company's health care business, where he was the architect of CIBA-Corning's diagnostic services organization, and ultimately took on the role of Senior Vice President of Human Resources, during which time he guided the company through significant global growth. He is a former officer in the United States Air Force, and received his BA in Finance from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He also studied Financial Management and Human Resources at the University of Virginia Darden School.
Mr. Munnelly has over 15 years experience with molecular biology, chemistry, software, instrument development, and statistical analysis. Prior to BioTrove, Mr. Munnelly was a senior manager of the Platform Technology group at Millennium Pharmaceuticals and before that he was a scientist at Applied Biosystems. He holds an A.B. with honors from Bowdoin College in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and an MBA, Magna Cum Laude, from Babson College.
Dr. Özbal is responsible for much of the RapidFire™ Lead Discovery development, including the ultra high throughput mass spectrometry interface. He has extensive background in bioanalytical chemistry, chromatography, and instrumentation design. He has an A.B. with honors from Bowdoin College and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from M.I.T. His doctoral work involved the quantification of DNA and protein adducts of a class of environmental carcinogens known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and required the development of new instrumentation and ultra-sensitive analytical methods.
Mr. St. Pierre brings to BioTrove more than 25 years' experience in financial operations, including senior management positions in multi-national firms. Prior to BioTrove, Mr. St. Pierre managed the finances of various high tech and life science companies, including Apogent Technologies, Inc. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and his M.B.A from the University of New Hampshire.
Mr. Olex brings over 20 years of management experience in engineering, quality, manufacturing, and operations in the bio-analytical area. Most recently, Mr. Olex was Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations at U.S. Genomics. Prior to U.S. Genomics, he held various senior management positions at Applied BioSystems, CIBA Corning and Nordson Corp. He holds an MBA from Case Western University, and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University.
